Not to mention the daunting task of learning the new features offered by the MacOS 8, just as I had finally gotten used to System 7.6.

These are the trials of living in the computer age. So rather than stick with the old I chose to embrace this new friend (read:MacOS 8) and take advantage of this new operating system. While improving on the visual design aspect of the previous System 7.6, the MacOS 8 has also added several amazing new features that will change the way people work on their computers at home and at work.

MY FIRST COMPUTER DATE

Installing the new MacOS 8 was my first installation experience on any computer. Though I had been working on a Mac for about a year with System 7.6 previously installed , I was, at first, intimidated by my first installation experience.

The new OS 8 is designed for the novice user and the power user. The installation process was designed to not intimidate the novice while giving the experienced user the option of personalizing the set up functions for a more specific user mission. MacOS 8 has a "set-up assistant" option for the less experienced which has a recommended set of extensions. If you are not exactly sure how you will be using your computer, choosing the right programs to install can be really confusing. MacOS 8 suggests the most useful extensions, and as the user becomes more experienced adding new extensions will become second nature. The best feature offered by the MacOS 8 Installer is the automatic hard disc evaluation.

Note

Apple discovered that most of the systems errors causing computer crashes were not because of the computer's native functions, but because the user's installed hard disk had some kind of operating malfunction. Now when you install the MacOS 8 if your hard drive has any dysfunction the installer will catch it and either correct the problem on the hard disk or offer the user alternative solutions.
