The Atari 2600 was
not only the first home videogame console it was also an experiment
in how much game play software developers could engineer out of
square dots and simple beeps. Some games, like Pitfall!
and Laser Blast, were genuinely fun. But others,
like Beamrider and Kabobber, were
not worth the plastic in which they were encased. For better or
for worse, Activision and MacPlay have released a gaggle of old
Atari games for use on your Mac. Just about everything Activision
ever made for the old Atari VCS is here. If you're really hankering
for a trip down memory lane, this is the best way to get there,
but if you're just amazed by the long list of titles on the back
of the box, don't get your hopes up: about 70% of these games are
worthless.
