Author of “Droidmaker: George Lucas and the Digital
Revolution,” gives inside story of filmmaker’s
role in today’s entertainment technology
FRAMINGHAM, MA, October 26, 2005 – IDG World Expo,
the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences
and events for technology markets, today announced the Feature
Presentations lineup for Macworld Conference & Expo®,
taking place January 9-13, 2006 at San Francisco’s Moscone
Center. Mac luminaries Michael Rubin, David Pogue, Chris Pirillo
and Russell Brown will be featured. Topics include: George
Lucas revolutionizing filmmaking; David Pogue’s Macworld
talk show; the rise of Podcasting; and new features in Photoshop
CS.
It was also announced today that the Feature Presentations
will now be open to all Macworld attendees – those with
conference passes as well as those with exhibit hall passes.
In previous years, a conference pass was required to attend
the Feature Presentations.
Feature Presentations include:
·“Droidmaker,” presented by Michael Rubin,
author of “Droidmaker: George Lucas and the Digital
Revolution,” 1/11/06 at 11:30 a.m. Rubin will discuss
how the remarkable tools now on every Mac began as revolutionary
notions in the late 1960s, from radicals like Lucas and his
friend Francis Coppola. Concurrent with the making of The
Empire Strikes Back, Lucas launched research so prolific,
and yet so private, that few realize its impact on editing,
audio, video games and computer graphics. Rubin gives the
inside story of George Lucas and spins a tale of movies, technology
and friendships.
·“Macworld Live! with David Pogue,” 1/11/06
at 10:30 a.m. Move over Letterman, Leno and Conan –
New York Times technology columnist and Mac industry luminary
David Pogue returns to Macworld to host this entertaining
and informative talk show. Always a crowd favorite, “Macworld
Live! With David Pogue” includes the news of the day,
exciting guests, David’s famous song parodies and plenty
of surprises.
·“The Russell Brown Power Hour,” 1/13/06
at 10:00 a.m. Photoshop expert Russell Brown will kick off
the hour with virtuoso style and classic theatre. Prepare
for an “altered” view of Photoshop, guaranteed
to make you smile. Russell will take you on a wild and wacky
ride through some of the key new features found in Photoshop
CS. In his own unique style, he will cover some of his favorite
new features and reveal amazing ways to use them.
·“The Podcast Economy,” 1/13/06 at 10:00
a.m. Industry luminary Chris Pirillo presents his insights
on the rise of the Podcasting phenomenon: the societal impact
and the economic opportunities that have arisen in its wake.
From his unique vantage point as one of the pioneers of RSS-based
business models, Chris brings a wealth of insight and practical
advice with him that will inspire you, challenge your perceptions
and shed reality on where Podcasting is today and where it
can go tomorrow.
·“MacBrainiac Challenge,” 1/12/06 at 9:30
a.m. Macworld’s geek trivia game. Who will dethrone
Jason Snell’s Macworld Magazine team – the winner
of the past two events? Hosted by Chris Breen, with teams
comprised of Mac personalities.
