The newest release optimizes performance, makes it easy to create attractive interfaces and simplifies integrating mobile devices for data gathering and display.
On the Go
The biggest game-changer in FileMaker 12 is the greatly improved integration with the iPhone and iPad via FileMaker Go 12. New design templates enable touch-based features and simplify converting desktop data entry and reporting screens to either the phone or tablet’s display.
iOS devices also benefit from some of ...

Macworld 2012 Picks: Enterprise
02/20/2012
Though Macworld|iWorld seemed to be focused on the latest in software and accessories for your personal iDevice, the Expo also serves as a gathering place for another group of Apple product customers. It’s a segment that may be growing more quietly, but no less dramatically. These are the system administrators, IT managers and technicians responsible for deploying and maintaining the Mac and iOS devices in business, government and education. Where most of us are concerned with keeping our personal Mac or iOS device happy, they need to think in terms of hundreds or thousands of them.
While the majority of Expo-goers were reveling in the ...

Office:Mac 2011 Home & Student: Head of the Class
05/09/2011
When a new version of Microsoft Office is announced, the news is almost always greeted with a mixture of both hope and dread. The new features always sound so great, absolutely brilliant in some cases; but along with them comes the fear of bugs and, as has often been the case, dreadful performance of the initial (and sometimes subsequent) releases of a given version. So the two biggest surprises in Office:Mac 2011 are the facts that it runs extraordinarily well and it’s quite possibly the fastest version of Office that Mac users have seen in years. What’s even more amazing is that this is combined with innumerable feature enhancements ...

QuickOffice Connect Means Business
01/30/2011
At Macworld 2011, it was obviously the year of the iPad. They were in nearly all the exhibit booths, in the hands of attendees (notability those frantically taking notes at the conference sessions), and even on stage at the Cirque du Mac party serving as song lists and lyric cheat sheets for the band (give them a break--they only get to jam together once a year).
But to a greater degree than any other product that Apple has fielded, the iPad is being recognized as a powerful enterprise tool whose success is skyrocketing. Since iOS4, Apple has provided much of the hidden infrastructure to make the iPad (and iPhone) enterprise friendly. ...

Eltima Software
12/24/2010
In 2003, MKS Software and Show.kit Team joined arms and formed Eltima Software. At the beginning, the company was led by a group of students studying IT. One of them was Serge Sementsov who today is the CEO at Eltima.
It was in 2001-02 when they started selling their first licenses for shareware products. In fact, their first client was won in 2001 by MKS Software. Their Virtual Serial Port solutions were successful back then, and are still mainstream technologies developed by the company today.
Eltima provides a wide range of software solutions for both Mac and PC users and developers. Some of Eltima’s software solutions for Mac ...

Acrobat Pro X: First Look
10/17/2010
Acrobat X - First Look
When Adobe Acrobat first appeared in 1993, there was a good deal of doubt (even within Adobe) that such a product would be profitable or even useful. Its debut release was Mac-only but was quickly migrated to Windows (3.1) and DOS. Soon after, the reader became freeware, the Internet became popular and the PDF became ubiquitous. With the release of Acrobat X (“ten”), the PDF is poised to move into new territory with a new look and a number of new tools for Acrobat Pro and even some new capabilities for Adobe Reader.
Though it was just officially announced today and may not be on retailers’ shelves for a while, ...

09/23/2010
Apple has released updated for Keynote, Numbers, and Pages for the iPad. These updates offer bug fixes as is the norm, but also introduce some new features as well. It would be way too long and drawn out if I were to write everything, so here is a simple and concise list.
Keynote
- Export presentations to Microsoft PowerPoint (.PPT) format.
- Copy presentations between Keynote and your MobileMe iDisk or a WebDAV service.
- Support for audio in builds when importing Keynote '09 presentations.
- Ability to group and ungroup objects.
- Add animated builds to grouped objects.

Microsoft Reveals More Details of Office 2011
02/17/2010
Even though Apple wasn’t there to reveal new products, a number of Mac vendors chose Macworld 2010 to make their announcements. One of the more important was Microsoft’s Mac Business Unit (MacBU) revealing more details (and the official name) of their flagship desktop suite. Office for Mac 2011 will begin shipping in time for the holiday season of 2010 with a number of new features that reveal new directions for the venerable package.
Topping the list will be a number of new collaboration features that work in conjunction with platform-agnostic web versions of the suite. These will allow several individuals to work on different ...

Analysis: Hidden Gem in Apple's New Hardware
10/21/2009
Even though the Magic Mouse has been deservedly grabbing all the headlines, one of the less lauded additions announced by Apple on Tuesday could have a tremendous impact on an oft-forgotten target market: the enterprise.
The Mac mini has never been one of Apple’s best sellers. The iMac’s gorgeous displays and one-piece design make it an ideal Mac OS platform for home, school and office. In fact, the mini’s backpack/coat pocket-friendly form factor can present a security issue in some environments. But its most important asset, significant processing power in a very insignificant amount of space, has had rather limited appeal.
Until ...
